Playing instruments or taking voice classes?

SOOOOOO. I had planned to learn the guitar this year, but couldn't afford to check in my brother's guitar on the plane this semester, so I just finished registering into drumming class! The professor seems to be really cool and we just spent an hour and a half discussing women in rock and blues and different drumming styles and such. Are any of you women-identifying members learning how to play or sing or are already playing and singing? Wanna talk about it?

I just got a guitar this year - well, my dad did but it's HERE and it's MINE dammit - and I've wanted one for AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGES and now I'm kind of totally clueless intimidated. I can't afford lessons so I was thinking I'd self teach, at least for a while, but IDK at this point that feels kind of impossible /o\ CORDS! How will I learn cords with no teacher! Who will make sure I'm doing it right?

Anyway so now I'd love to just hear encouragement/personal stories from people who HAVE taught themselves guitar or tips or whatever. I mean I can look up instructional videos on youtube but idk if they'll actually work/help?

I've actually got an entry with a mathrock US musician who up and taught herself how play guitar when she was twenty one ready for posting.

I mean, I think that if you just play around and try to maybe work out the chords to your fav. songs at first, you should be able to put together something.
