The band (taken from Wikipedia)
Aterciopelados (English: the Velvety Ones), also referred to as los Aterciopelados on some albums and other promotional materials, are a rock band from Colombia. Led by Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago, they have been one of the first rock bands from Colombia to gain international notice and is among the country's top groups. Their music fuses rock with a variety of Colombian and Latin American musical traditions. Time Magazine has written, "Aterciopelados's true skill lies in its ability to take north-of-the-border musical styles…and breathe new life into them, all while giving them a distinctly Colombian sheen." [1]
Additionally, Aterciopelados engages audiences all over the world with their socially-conscious message. Honored by the United Nations for their work denouncing violence in Colombia, Aterciopelados speaks out about myriad issues including political injustice, women's rights, and environmental destruction. The group has also received numerous awards, such as the Latin Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album in 2007, for Oye (Nacional Records).[2]MORE

What can we find on the new CD “Oye”?
“Oye”, contrary to “Gozo (Poderoso)” and previous albums as “Caribe (Atomico)” and the solo ones (Andrea Echeverri and Conhector) returns to live drums because those albums that I mentioned are more electronic.
Here we return to live drums as rhythmical basis and that already gives the album like another dynamic, another sound, another way to produce and even to compose the songs. It is like a little closer to the live band, is a little less subtle compared to the electronic projects, like a little more forceful, and that, mixed with the subjects of several songs that are critical and rockier makes it more like previous albums as “Pipa (De La Paz)” or “El Dorado”.MORE

Aterciopelados’ Andrea Echeverri Goes Solo…Again
In between 2001’s Gozo Poderoso and 2006’s Oye, Aterciopelados‘ Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago took a long break and released their first two separate solo projects. When they came back from their break, the Colombian duo, after experimenting with electronic music for their previous two albums, mutated back into a proper rock band, more similar to the original formation of the group.
Two Aterciopelados albums later (Río was the latest one in 2008), it seems like the story is about to be repeated. Echeverri recently announced she’s almost done with her new solo album, to be titled Andrea Echeverri 2 (no release date yet), while Buitrago is running a little bit behind, but is also working on his sequel to 2006’s Conector.MORE
