Chatmoncy Interview at J-Pop World

Let's get to know you all a little better. Can you tell us about your hometown and what it was like growing up there?

Akiko: We're from Tokushima, and there's really not much there, but the weather is beautiful and I think it's a great environment to play music. But since rock music isn't really recognized in Tokushima, we hope that our activities will bring better understating of the genre.

How did you each first get into music?

Akiko: When I went to see Chatmonchy's live performance. I immediately became a fan.

Eriko: When I went to see a show of my older brother's band.

Kumiko: I was in the brass band in middle school (clarinet) and high school (percussion), and then I joined the band club in college and decided to play the drums.

How do you feel growing up in Tokushima has influenced your music, compared to someone who grew up in say Tokyo or Osaka?

Kumiko: I think the lyrics are very much influenced where we grew up, and all the views of the landscapes we have (just like how you can feel the vibe of California in Red Hot Chili Peppers's music), so I think it'll give a deeper feel if you listen to our music in Tokushima.MORE

Chatmoncy Interview at Spinner Magazine

What don't we know about the Chatmonchy that we should?

All: We were told by a prophet, Yochan, that because our bass player was born in April of one year, and the guitar player was born 6 months later in October, and then again in April the drummer was born, that we make an ideal trio. We hope everyone wants to come to our show and enjoys our music.MORE

Alpine interview by Andy Hazel (music journalist)

Getting signed to a label like Ivy League within months of getting your first Triple J airplay, which happens hours after your songs are uploaded to their Unearthed website is a dream most Australian bands would be thrilled to have realised. Phoebe Baker from Melbourne band Alpine is one of them. “It’s been a very fast year in terms of momentum,” she says laughing. “Lou[isa James, other vocalist] and the other guys joined the bands only last year since first gig, then got signed to Ivy League and since then there have been so many gigs…it’s been intense.”

Prompting some to liken their music to Phoenix or Electrelane, what creatively sets Alpine apart is an obsession with time and place, as seen in a band like Je Suis Animal. The sound, the songs and the overarching aesthetic of the band shares very little in common with other similarly lauded bands. Once called Swiss and with a debut EP Zurich, there is clearly something of a Central Europe fixation going on here. “I suppose there is,” says Baker as if it had just occurred to her. “When I think of Alpine I think of this kind of fresh clean beauty which kind of reminds me of…not fresh like zesty…more like how you feel as if you have just had a nice swim.”MORE

Clare Maguire is determined to dance to her own tunes

It is quite a statement to live up to, being touted as The Voice of 2011, but Clare Maguire refuses to appear fazed by the high expectations placed upon her. Instead, as she folds her tall frame into an armchair at a Soho private members' club, the 23-year-old solo artist sounds eminently grounded as she talks about the possibilities that are opening for her this year, and the hard graft that has taken her to this point. Maguire may have tottered in on designer heels – a gift from a high-end supplier hoping her star quality will rub off – but there are glimpses of the girl from Birmingham with the ambition not just to sing, but to tell her own stories.

As the tag on the adverts suggests, she is best known for the powerful set of lungs that are helping her re-invent the torch song on debut album Light After Dark, but Maguire seems inspired as much by her Celtic background. She closes her album with a tribute to that heritage in the pastiche of an Irish ballad, "This is Not the End", recorded in one take with strings and based on traditional tune "The Parting Glass". "I wrote that a week after my grandad passed away. My grandparents are my biggest icons and inspirations. I wanted a track that was for them, for Ireland and for that heritage."MORE

Lunar Eclipse - 血瞳 | Chinese Metal

Lunar Eclipse - 复仇者日志 | Chinese Metal

Lunar Eclipse History from rock in china wiki

Lunar Eclipse was founded as an Fuzhou underground band with a different name. The band was influenced by various styles of metal. November 2003, the band consisted of: Tang Bo (vocals), Zhang Shuyi (guitar), Su Yuanhuang (bass), Chen Ce (keyboard) and drummer Xiong Zhenliang. After some time, a female lead vocalist joined the band pushing their style near gothic. In April 2005 the band officially changed its name to Lunar Eclipse. By the end of December 2004, guitarist Xiao Cai joined the band, adding up the number of members to 7.

Lunar Eclipse always oriented their style to European melodic death metal, black metal and gothic metal, with lyrics full of sorrow, darkness and gloom. Representative songs of this style are "沉", "Who cares me", "永远没有永远的永远是永远", and "You live in my pain".

In 2006 the band has encountered some difficulties. Keyboard player and female singer Huang Heming has quit the band for personal reasons. Withoud a successor, the band took a temporarily break.MORE

Chinese Brit pop Band Ann is thoroughly gorgeous. Unfortunately the music player is for shit. If you have got patience though, your reward will be great.

FEATING is the song that finally worked easily for me.
