Boh Runga is the lead singer and guitarist in New Zealand rock band Stellar*.[1] She comes from a very musical family - both her sisters are, or have been, in bands. She is the eldest of three sisters - her youngest sister, Bic, has a successful solo career, and Pearl has been in several bands in New Zealand.
Boh grew up in New Zealand, the daughter of a Maori ex-serviceman and a Chinese mother who forsook her own singing career in Malaysia to join him in a place she barely knew existed. It wasn't the easiest place to grow up but the Runga household, with Boh leading the way, was bursting to its seams with music.MORE

Fool’s Gold’s Erica Garcia: By Tom Tom Magazine

Tom Tom Magazine: What is your favorite percussion set-up? Why?

Erica Garcia: I’m not a real percussionist, I’m a multi-instrumentalist. My friends asked me to play percussion, so I pretty much play whatever they put it in front of me- but I don’t necessarily know the name of the things I’m playing. I definitely don’t like those things that make rain sounds, or the curtain chimes, or however you call it.

First and foremost, she's a singer/songwriter/performer, doing her thing with her brand of soulful lovers' rock (yea man, listen to it below, you'll see what we mean). She grew up listening to artists like Stevie Wonder, Santana, Madonna, Prince, Earth Wind and Fire, and aims at creating timeless music. Then there's the Event Promoter hat: "Right now one of my main concerns is developing the scene here in Jamaica with my event 'Altered Fridays' and with my live shows", she tells us. FYI, producer Diplo was a guest DJ a few weeks ago, and they even got a visit from (gasp!) Grace Jones - one of the greatest artists in the world, if you ask me... :-)Click HERE for the music

Interview with the Jamaican Paper The Gleaner

She is not easily placed in one or another genre of music. But Katherine Williams continues to put her heart into her work.

Crimson Heart Replica (CHR) is the name Williams, a 25-year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist, goes by.

CHR has done well on the underground live music scene for years.

"I've been writing and performing since I was little but professionally since I was around 19, 20. I call my music alternative lover's rock like Sade but with more edge to it," said CHR.

The artiste's appearance is testimony to her unique style, as it represents, in no uncertain terms, hard-core alternative rock exemplified by edgy hairstyles and multiple tattoos.

Her music, though, is soft; songs like Getting Ill, Beautiful Mistake,Close and Pins and Needles. Having listened to a number of classic artistes such as Stevie Wonder, Santana, Madonna, Prince, BeeGees, and Earth Wind and Fire growing up, rock was the form that most appealed to the singer who cites bands such as Hole, 311, Radiohead and Led Zeppelin as influences.
